BERNIQUAUT ET LA VALLEE DE DURFORT
Departure: Orival parking area. At the entrance to the car park, turn left onto the road that climbs towards the mountaine called Berniquaut. After about 500m, turn left on the road that goes up. Follow the winding track up to the grassy plateau. Avoid shortcuts (soil degradation). Leave the variant (mountain bike-equestrian) that leads to the belvedere on the left. A little further up on the left, follow the ridge overlooking the Durfort valley. Go up through the rocks to the Oppidum where the remains of the ancient Sorèze are locatd. It was called Verdinius (today Berniquaut), continue and descend the rock. Intersection on the left with the variant; view of the Sorèze quarry. Go to the right and immediately pass the place known as Le Portail, an ancient Roman road marked by the footprints of chariot wheels on the rock. Follow the path for about 500m until you reach the intersection of the signposted paths. Take the grassy path on the right where a chain is 20m away; this winding path goes down into the valley of the Sor stream. At the road, turn right to reach Durfort. Take the Rue des Martineurs on the left and then visit the village: the copper museum and the craft shops. At the last house, turn right on the path that goes up; follow it to the Orival car park.
